WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
Some of my most vivid memories of childhood were on Kangaroo Island, scouring the rugged beaches for treasure and soaking up the natural beauty of this quintessential Australian gem.
That's why I was so excited to be approached by 'Island Alive' to create a logo design and branding assets that reflected that raw beauty. Focusing on reconnecting with your body and surroundings, 'Island Alive' is a health and wellness retreat offering workshops and guided activities in a tranquil bush setting on Kangaroo Island, South Australia. Once immersed participants will learn what their physiology is capable of with the implementation of the Wim Hof Method.
Unlike other Wim Hof expeditions, the concept of 'Island Alive' is more of a gentle reconnect with nature and each other. With this in mind I was able to create branding that set itself apart from others in the industry. As well as representing an intertwined, organic connection between body and nature through the use of iconography, such as lungs, trees, land and sea. Colour palette and typography compliment this with an elegant and slightly whimsical final design.
BRAND COLOUR SCHEME
Referring back to colour psychology, I chose the colour palette for this brand with a lot of thought. One of the main keywords that came out of initial discussions and research was 'organic' and thus, colour choices were made with thoughts of sand, scorched earth, ocean and forest, which would also give context to the island location. Orange, an important representation of 'inner fire,' was complimented with greens, blues and a light sand colour.
LOGO TYPE
For the main logotype, an elegant, hand drawn vintage style font was chosen to represent the brand. This was not a mistake, rather a very well thought out decision that ended up representing the brand perfectly. The flowing wave of the bar in the letter 'A' for example compliments the organic feel of the logo mark. Together with a clean san serif font for body text provides for a stylish aesthetic, whilst being functional and easily readable.
